Thanks to you, Rodneisha has graduated!

On behalf of the entire Children of Shelters’ family we are so pleased to congratulate Rodneisha on her graduation from Howard University!  With the support of Children of Shelters this incredible young woman has lifted herself from the challenges of more than four years in and out of the shelter system and is now a first generation college graduate.  Rodneisha has earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and has been accepted into the Speech Language Pathology Masters’ program at both Northwestern and Howard University!  Her future plan is to become a bilingual speech pathologist...

Garden To Table

Children of Shelters was a direct beneficiary of the hugely successful Taste of the Nation event held this week at the Bentley Reserve.  The funds granted as a result of this event help to support our Garden to Table program which provides nutrition, cooking and garden education to the children and families living in our partner shelters.  For more information on the event or the No Kid Hungry campaign click here.

Board serves dinner at Raphael House

On two separate evenings the volunteer board members for Children of Shelters formed teams to serve dinner to the families residing at Raphael House.  Each night families dine together bringing a sense of community and normalcy for the children served at this partner shelter.  Our board members were honored to bring in two teams to help prepare, cook, serve and cleanup dinner for the families that we work so diligently to provide opportunities for their children.    Over half of the residents at Raphael House are children and in 2011 the programs at this shelter alone served 768 children...
